History of NASCAR Racing Games

NASCAR racing games have been around since 1985 when Richard Petty’s Talladega was launched by Cosmi and Electronic Arts for the Commodore 64 and Atari XL platforms. A lot has changed over the years as NASCAR racing games have evolved with many new features and lifelike graphics.

In 1990 Days of Thunder was designed by game developer Argonaut Software and published by Mindscape Group to run on several game platforms including Amiga, Atari ST, C64, DOS, Game Boy, NES, ZX Spectrum.

Throughout the 90′s several NASCAR games were published across a variety of gaming platforms and great progress was made to increase the gaming experience. The introduction of Nintento NES, Super Nintendo SNES, Playstation, Sega and personal computer games took playing racing games to new levels.

Some of the popular titles include Bill Elliott’s NASCAR Challenge, NASCAR Racing, Kyle Petty’s No Fear Racing, NASCAR Racing 2, NASCAR 98, NASCAR 99, NASCAR Racing 1999 Edition, NASCAR Revolution and NASCAR Craftsman Truck Racing.

Racing game giant Electronic Arts rolled out new games for the Playstation 2 system in 2000 and this set the bar much higher for game developers with incredible graphics and a racing experience that rivaled the real thing. Games like NASCAR 2001, NASCAR Thunder 2002, NASCAR Thunder 2003, NASCAR Thunder 2004, NASCAR 2005: Chase for the Cup, NASCAR 07, NASCAR 08, and NASCAR 09 provided consistent upgrades to stay current with drivers and teams as well as new technology in the online gaming industry.

Microsoft launched a new gaming platform in November 2001 originally named the DirectXbox but was later shortened to simply Xbox. The Xbox was a direct challenge to the success of Nintento, Sega and Sony’s Playstation and included capability to run all the NASCAR games. By 2007 the top game platforms were PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.

2009 saw the new release from Nintento, the interactive Wii system running NASCAR game NASCAR Kart Racing, the only existing game for the Wiii currently available.

Stay tuned for the all new NASCAR The Game 2011 due to hit the shelves February 15, 2011 with more realistic features than ever before. This new NASCAR racing game will be available for the Xbox 360, Wii and PlayStation 3.
