Austin Dillon will attempt to make his first career start in the Sprint Cup Series on Sunday at Kansas.
Dillon, 21, will be driving for Curb/Agajanian at both Kansas and Phoenix in the No. 98 car, not the No. 3, which he has driven in the Camping World Truck Series for grandfather Richard Childress. RCR will prepare the car.
The car will be sponsored by Camping World and the Ronald Reagan Centennial, which sponsored Clint Bowyer‘s car at Auto Club Speedway earlier in the season.
It’s expected that Dillon will run a full season in the Nationwide Series in 2012 and that his brother Ty, the ARCA points leader, will run in the Truck Series. Austin currently sits first in the Truck Series standings, three points ahead of James Buescher.
Austin has been seen as the likely candidate for a fourth car for RCR if and when the team fields a fourth car again. With Bowyer’s departure for Michael Waltrip Racing in 2012 official on Friday, RCR is slated to field three cars full time next season.
